Sending Your First eScript

Follow this 'how-to' guide to send your first eScript with VetScript's integration.

This guide has been created for prescribing veterinarians already using PetBooqz as their practice software and wish to send their first eScript via VetScript's integration.

How to create and send your first eScript

Step 1: Locate VetScript's integration

The VetScript integration is found within the patient view in PetBooqz. Look for the VetScript icon and click the tab.

Step 2: Create a new eScript

Click on the New button and select Create New to create a new eScript.

The system will then prompt you for a staff password (Note: this password is not the password used to login. It is the password used to verify the user when performing actions such as editing clients or payments).

Enter your password and click OK.

Step 3: Add your medication

Click Add Medication. From here, you will see a blank prescribing template. You have the option to:

  • Create a custom compound, which requires the drug description, formula, active ingredient, quantity prescribed, and directions for use OR

  • Select medication from a drop-down menu, which contains a list of all the medications that all the pharmacies in the VetScript network can support you with. This list contains the most frequently prescribed medications that a vet practice tends to prescribe.

After selecting a medication, the quantity, units and strength fields are pre-populated based on the medication requirements, which means no double entry is required.

Key in your directions for use, select a relevant primary diagnosis, relevant expiration date, maximum repeats allowed, and minimum days between repeats.

You can flag whether a brand substitute is allowed, whether you need this prescription to be an emergency supply or if the medication prescribed is an unusual quantity.

Provide additional commentary to the pharmacy, like whether you require the pharmacy to charge the client for the medication. Once finalised, hit the Submit button.

Step 4: Select your pharmacy

Click Find Pharmacies to associate a pharmacy with the medication.

In the onboarding process with VetScript, we send you a list of pharmacies available in the network: you can choose to whitelist all of the pharmacies and view all of the relevant prices and medications available from each one of those pharmacies, or you can choose to select one.

We're always adding new pharmacies to the network.

Once you've selected your pharmacy to be associated with the medication above, your client's details, as well as the patient's details, have been pre-populated for you.

In this example, since we specified that the pharmacy will charge the client for the medication, these details are automatically sent directly to the selected pharmacy via VetScript's integration.

Then, nominate your postal address. You can either use the client's postal address, choose to have the medication sent back to your practice or use the custom address field (e.g. if your client wants medication sent to an alternative address).

Step 5: Submit your eScript

Click the Submit button. The system will then prompt you for your Vet Registration Number for security and compliance purposes. Enter your Vet Registration Number and click Send.

Once your eScript has been created, it automatically sends an email to your authorised pharmacy with the same barcode information captured in the PetBooqz patient view.

Congratulations! You've sent your first eScript.
